We did it! AgUnity managed to win the massive €150,000 ($250,000 AUD) prize offered by Techsylvania’s Startup Avalanche. Startup Avalanche was no ordinary pitching contest but a vigorous challenge where we had to prove the traction, scalability and real value of AgUnity.

“It was a tough process. The judge's kind of tore us to pieces (in a positive way) in the beginning. But their feedback was critical to us winning – we all had this brilliant lightbulb moment where we realised our story is not only ‘feel good’, but incredibly compelling to traditional investors when explained in the right way.”

Despite the difficulties, we were chosen as one of the 15 finalists which meant AgUnity would be attending the final 2-day virtual pitch event. It was here where the competition became even more intense when it was announced that the initial prize of €75,000 was being doubled to €150,000 thanks to Techsylvania’s partners; ROCA X, Fortech, Risky Business and Arobs Transilvania.

This came as a huge but welcome surprise to David and the rest of us as you can tell from how David describes the moment he found out,

“We couldn’t believe it [the doubling of the prize]. I was instantly messaging our COO Angus while they were announcing it and he nearly fell off his chair.”

After a stellar final pitch from AgUnity COO Angus Keck, AgUnity won the final prize of €150,000 plus and additional €50,000 worth of software development services from Fortech, a Romanian software services company and one of the partners of Startup Avalanche.

The whole AgUnity team is over the moon for not just winning but for simply being a part of a prestigious event such as this. Being in the same league as such high quality, global startups like; Apio Digital, DiaM Life, EnviCore, Hashiona, PayPact, Placesense, Ponera, Salesbeat, Sourcingbot and Yayzy is an incredible feat in its own right and we were so happy to have the opportunity.

Startup Avalanche was one of the most challenging contests we’ve been a part of so far, but it was well worth it. We’re incredibly thankful to Techsylvania and their partner; Risky Business, Fortech, ROCA X, and Arobs Transylvania for putting on the incredible event. Now with another prestigious feather in our cap it is time for the next achievement, so make sure you check in regularly with AgUnity on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter to make sure you don’t miss any updates.
