In 2016, David Davies and his co-founder laid the foundations of what Agunity would come to be when they entered a hackathon in a tech conference in London, enticed by a prize from the prestigious Singularity University and the uniqueness of the challenge.
What was the challenge? To conceptualise and present “the biggest world changing idea”.
Their solution: a low cost smartphone and a safe transaction record system powered by blockchain, to tackle financial and digital exclusion for remote, rural communities.
5 years on, we are an award-winning technology provider, creating digitisation solutions that integrate remote farming communities into global supply chains.
At AgUnity, we are deeply committed to influencing the issues that drive poverty in rural and remote communities worldwide, commonly known as the 'Last Mile'.
Access to mobile-money, credit and insurance are considered key avenues to foster broad economic growth and lift millions of people out of poverty. How do we solve financial inclusion at scale? With digital inclusion.
Our platform is designed to cater to the needs of both farming communities and the organisations and businesses - in a wide range of sectors - that need a technological avenue to connect with them.
Leveraging our technology diminishes the operational risks of transacting with rural communities and improves the efficiency of implementing projects in emerging markets. Lesser risk for the demand side leads to better pay for the farmers. Ultimately, ‘last mile’ communities gain improved means to control their livelihoods, partnerships and finances.
The end-game: better business that creates Impact.
Our unique approach - No Assumptions.
We learn directly from the end users, designing and testing our solutions on site, in real conditions. This participatory design process is key to the success of our application and projects.
Can a smartphone provide digital and financial inclusion?
AgUnity’s smartphone can.
Our app ensures that all transactions by both our users and clients are permanently and securely recorded on a dedicated, immutable Blockchain ledger.
We deliver through excellent collaborations with Service Providers, Commodity Buyers /Traders and development agencies implementing SDG related programs serving the ‘last mile’.
Our robust platform is designed to provide seamless transactional services regardless of available telecom network services in the ‘last mile’
Our user friendly interface and intuitive app architecture are specifically designed to provide a framework of trust around integrated services, applicable for rural communities and their service providers.
According to the UN, ethical business and investment are essential to achieve transformational change that will ensure peaceful, stable societies. AgUnity has pledged to sustainable and fair business practices, but our technology can do much more.
A simple smartphone powered with AgUnity’s operative system and super- app can lift a family out of poverty, prevent corruption in the supply chain and promote gender equality. Poverty is surmountable. And with our technology, it can become an issue of the past.
We partner with organisations focused on delivering on the UN SDGs objectives, but any business can deploy our technology to develop sustainable and fair trade practices.
"We thank AgUnity for providing our member farmers with mobile phone with AgUnity App and new technology. This technology transfer which helps us to improve our living standard through using the App, substituting paper receipt during coffee transaction. We used previously for coffee transaction paper receipt.
The mobile phone records transaction and avoid missing and damaging of paper receipt. Now the transaction of coffee will be recorded on the mobile phone with the help of AgUnity App. The phone have also learning, saving and shopping which are very useful to us. Again we thank you very much all AgUnity team."
